What does PaymentSense do?

PaymentSense is a card processing company based in the UK. It offers highly flexible rates and merchant account packages. It currently has over 30,000 customers that rely on its service.

Who are PaymentSense?

PaymentSense was set up by George Karibian and Jon Farrarons who, in 2009, thought that there had to be a better alternative to current merchant services serving small businesses.

After building their technology platform and putting together a management team, the pair launched PaymentSense in 2010, signing up 20,000 customers in its first two years. Today, the company has offices in London, Mumbai and Boston and processes over £3 billion worth of card transactions every year.

What does PaymentSense offer?

1. Card machines

PaymentSense offers a wide range of terminals for processing your credit/debit card payments. You can choose from countertop terminals for taking payments at the till, portable Bluetooth readers which are ideal for restaurants and mobile terminals for taking payments on the go.

All card readers come with a range of extra features, such as doing cashback, taking gratuities, mobile top-ups, pre-authorisation (for hotels) plus online access to transaction reports. Prices vary and customers are asked to phone to get an accurate quote for the reader that they’d like to purchase.

2. Online payments

PaymentSense offers an online card processing package that comes with a merchant account, payment gateway and a customized payment page. Merchants can expect to start trading online 24 hours after applying for an account.

The PCI DSS-compliant payment gateway can be integrated into most shopping carts, and has multi-layer security. Clients will also have access to online monitoring tools to keep track of their transactions.

3. Pay by phone

PaymentSense can also set up a virtual terminal that will allow merchants to take card payments over the phone. As with the online payments package, this service comes with a merchant account and payment gateway and can be set up in 24 hours.

Fee Structure

Both online payments and pay-by-phone services come in two packages:

Starter Package: £ 14.95/month

  • Perfectly suited for small businesses
  • Processes transactions up to £50K/ year

Pro Package: £ 19.95/month

  • Tailor made for larger enterprises
  • Processes transactions up to £250k/year

PaymentSense don’t publish their per transaction rates online – which means that they will be negotiable to a degree. They have been known to charge quite high fees however (2.5% on credit cards and 30p on debit cards) so be sure to shop around for quotes.

Why choose PaymentSense?

Accounts are easy to set up and you can start accepting card payments in 24 hours. If you’re just purchasing a card reader, you can have your terminal within 3 to 5 days, and if you ever need a replacement, you will get it delivered the next day.

There are no hidden fees, and the monthly rates are fixed. On top of this, you will not be tied into any long-term contracts. PaymentSense also offers UK-based technical support and customer services, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
